WHAT ARE THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GETTING MARRIED IN MONTENEGRO?· Age: Both parties must be at least 18 years old and not closely related. · Legal capacity: You must be legally capable of entering into a marriage. This means you cannot be currently married, in a civil partnership, or have any legal impediments to getting married. · Witnesses: You will need to have at least two witnesses present at the ceremony. They must be at least 18 years old and have valid identification.

CAN FOREIGNERS GET MARRIED IN MONTENEGRO ?There are no residency requirements for getting married in Montenegro. You can get married as a tourist or on a temporary visa.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD WE START PLANNING OUR WEDDING?It is recommended that you start planning your wedding at least 12 to 15 months in advance. Starting your planning early will help ensure that you have enough time to make informed decisions and avoid last-minute stress. This will give you enough time to choose a venue, hire reputable vendors for your preferred date and make travel arrangements for you and your guests. It is also possible to arrange a wedding within short notice if the couple is flexible with choices and able to provide the required paperwork for marriage. WHAT TYPE OF CEREMONIES CAN WE HAVE IN MONTENEGRO? A CIVIL CEREMONY AND/OR A RELIGIOUS CEREMONY?Montenegro offers both civil and religious (both Catholic & Orthodox Christian) ceremonies for couples looking to get married. Please note Church weddings in Montenegro are for religious purposes only; marriage also needs to be registered in the town hall in order to be legalised.

WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS FOR VENUES AND LOCATIONS TO GET MARRIED IN MONTENEGRO?· A civil ceremony can take place in a municipal building or a location of your choice, such as a hotel, restaurant, private villas, vineyards, beach clubs, national parks and more… · Symbolic ceremonies can be conducted in various locations too. · Religious ceremonies can be performed in a church or other religious setting by a priest.

ARE SAME-SEX WEDDINGS OR CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS AVAILABLE IN MONTENEGRO?The same-sex civil partnership has been available in Montenegro since 15 July 2021, giving the same legal rights and protections available to opposite-sex married couples except for the right to adopt.
